From heartache, loneliness, troubles at home, academic stress and financial troubles; to sadness, anxiety, eating issues or just feeling “stuck”. No matter how big or small your troubles are, our door is open. You are welcome to come to @ease and talk about whatever troubles you are facing; together we can lighten the load.
There is no need to make an appointment to use @ease’s services. All discussions are anonymous and 100% cost free. Here at @ease we take your privacy very seriously. Because of this, we do not keep records or make note of personal information of anyone who comes to us. So, no consent from parents or guardians necessary. If you rather not come alone, you are of course more than welcome to take someone you’re comfortable with along. The duration of a talk can vary greatly, sometimes talks last fifteen minutes, sometimes they take an hour or even a little longer. Need more time? That’s alright too! We’re flexible and you are always welcome to come back for follow-ups, whenever you need and as often as you like.
Volunteers are the heart of our operation. @ease is powered by a diverse team of trained volunteers, varying in background, study, age and more. Our volunteers’ primary function is to listen. Some volunteers are psychology students while others are experienced professionals. Some volunteers are younger, while others can be a little older. Regardless, they always conduct the conversations together. All have been trained according to @ease policies and philosophies. And while their primary function is to listen, they will also advise you if that is what you want.
Some problems can be more severe than others, and require additional expertise. That is why there is always a healthcare professional (for example a psychologist or a youth doctor) at @ease. This professional can examine your situation and advises you on how to further help you on your journey.
Between 12 and 25, there is a lot happening all at once. From bodily changes, to shifts in thoughts, priorities and feelings; to changes in expectations, needs and demands in social circles. This can easily become overwhelming, and that’s to be expected. Reaching adulthood is rarely an easy ride and everyone needs help sometimes. Despite the need for a listening ear; often people don’t receive the support they so desperately need. Or they receive it too late, why is that? Well, there are a lot of reasons for that.
Only 20% of young people with psychological complaints receive proper care in time. They often live their lives with their psychological burdens for too long. This can be due to feelings of isolation, or helplessness. Or a lack of awareness of viable options, and local supports. School may be unaware of problems being faced and fail to take action because of it. At other times, individuals are reluctant because of waiting lists or feelings of shame and fear of stigma. These are only some of the reasons, and they only increase the feelings of isolation.
At @ease we believe in different approaches to managing physiological issues. We want to help young people who start experiencing psychological problems.
We do this by being a place where you feel welcome and safe. We believe that nobody should walk around alone when things take a turn for the worst.
We are here to listen to you, it helps to talk. Discussing challenges, complications, problems and fears helps in the realization that you are not alone.
And facing these things can ensure that your problems do not get worse.
The sad reality is that 75% of all mental illnesses occur before the age of 25 years. That is why it is pivotal to get help on time, in order to prevent problems growing. Early attention to psychological issues can also decrease the need of future long-term care. @ease believes whole-heartedly that not only is it possible to do better, it is imperative to do so. Studies have shown that when people have access to supports early; health, happiness, resilience and wellbeing improve significantly. No one should have to fight these battles alone, so we’re here to do just that: help you take on those fights. Talking helps, expression can relieve the ache and makes us stronger. It makes us more connected and braver, knowing we’re not alone. Even the heaviest of burdens becomes lighter when it’s shared.
